Journaling is a great way to both help you stay
on track and monitor your progress. Some weight loss programs
offer special journal books or online tracking tools. If well
designed, they can be very handy, but you can get away with
a plain notebook where you jot down notes on:
• Your meals, snacks, medications and
supplements: what you ate, drank or took; when; how much.
• Your physical activities: type of
exercise, its duration and intensity.
• How you felt physically, mentally
and emotionally (could any of this be related to what you
consumed or did?), and anything else you consider relevant
to your weight loss efforts.
• Periodic measurements: body fat percentage;
waist, hips and chest circumferences; pounds (if you must).
If you’re not pleased with your progress,
as indicated by your periodic measurements, you can go through
your notes and see where you can improve. Or you can have
your notes analyzed by a weight management expert who will
then advise you where you need to make changes.
