Plant Care Tips:
How to Enhance Your Soil Naturally

The soil is rich, but the plants are poor?

Some soils may be rich in nutrients, but if the soil is very compact (for instance clay), plants can’t absorb them easily. If that is the case where you live, you need to enhance the soil with special enzymes.

You can use enzymes with regular soils, too, if you simply want bigger and healthier plants.

What are enzymes and how can they help your plants?

Enzymes are natural, non-toxic and non-polluting proteins that enable or speed up biochemical reactions. Reactions that would normally take years to complete, can take place in seconds! Enzymes tend to be highly specialized, each being responsible for only one type of reaction.

In the past, enzymes for the agricultural industry used to be extracted from the pancreas of slaughtered animals. Nowadays, due to increased demand, this cruel practice has been replaced by breeding special bacteria cultures that are safe for humans, animals and plants, and can form desired enzymes in large quantities. The enzymes are separated from the bacteria before inclusion in soil enhancing products.

Enzymes in soil enhancing and plant growing products loosen up the soil and break down the nutrients found in it so it’s easier for the plants to reach and absorb them.

Products that contain enzymes work particularly well in the presence of water, so the best time to apply enzymes to the soil is either just before you water the plants or while you are watering them. You can apply both the enzymes and water simultaneously by combining them in a watering can, or using a special spray nozzle to attach a bottle with enzymes to a garden hose.

Enzyme-based soil enhancers can be used for all kinds of plants: potted flowers and herbs, flower and vegetable gardens, fruit and ornamental shrubs and trees, lawns, you name it.

And it’s great to know that it’s safe to eat fruit and veggies even from a freshly sprayed garden!

WARNING: Allergies to enzymes are rare, but if you are allergic, then, obviously, enzyme-based products are NOT recommended.
